Robert Lee, MBus Admin, BSc


Robert was appointed to the Maple-Brown Abbott Limited Board in October 2015 and in October 2018 he was appointed Chairman. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University. During a 20 year career with Macquarie Group, Robert held senior roles within the equity capital markets, corporate finance and private equity groups. This included four years as managing director of Macquarie Direct Investments where he was responsible for overseeing four investment trusts with over $500 million of invested capital. Robert has served on the boards of numerous companies in Australia, the USA and Asia.

Sophia Rahmani, B Comm, LLB (Hons), Grad Dip App Fin, GAICD

Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director

Sophia joined Maple-Brown Abbott as Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director in October 2019. Sophia has extensive leadership experience across financial services and asset management businesses within Australia and globally. Prior to Maple-Brown Abbott, Sophia was the Chief Operating Officer, Pan Asia, for Janus Henderson Investors based in Singapore, having previously been with Henderson Global Investors as Chief Operating Officer, Australia, from 2013. Prior to this, Sophia spent eight years with the Macquarie Group, principally in its asset management division, with experience across strategy, mergers and acquisitions, product and marketing. During this period she spent time based in Sydney, New York and Philadelphia. Sophia started her career as a solicitor at King & Wood Mallesons.

Richard Grundy, B Ec CA

Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer

Richard joined Maple-Brown Abbott in 1994. He was appointed as an executive director and Chief Operating Officer in July 2008. Richard has management responsibility for the operations of the firm and has staff responsibilities for the research team. Richard completed the Senior Executive Program at London Business School in 2016.

Geoff Bazzan, B Bus ( Hons ) CFA

Executive Director & Head of Asia Pacific Equities

Geoff joined Maple-Brown Abbott in 1995. He was appointed as an executive director in July 2008. His responsibilities include equities analysis and portfolio management for Asia Pacific ex-Japan portfolios. He is also responsible for overseeing the international portion of our multi-asset portfolios. Geoff completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2015.

Trevor Robinson, B Comm LLB

Non-Executive Director

Trevor was appointed as a non-executive director in March 2013 having retired as a partner with Clayton Utz in 2008 and being appointed as a consultant to the Board of Maple-Brown Abbott in July 2009. During his 27 years with Clayton Utz he practised predominantly in the banking and financial services area.

Jennifer Elliott, BA (Hons), LLB (Hons), MA

Non-Executive Director

Jennifer was appointed to the Maple-Brown Abbott Limited Board in January 2017. She holds a Master of Asian Business Studies from SOAS, London University, and arts and law degrees from Sydney University. Jennifer has extensive experience in senior executive roles in financial services, with a particular focus on strategic planning, risk and compliance, joint ventures in Asia and global human resources. During a 20 year career with Moody’s Corporation, Jennifer held a variety of analytic and management roles, including over 5 years as head of Moody’s Investors Service Asian business, and also several years as Chief Human Resources Officer for Moody’s Corporation. Jennifer currently sits on several boards as an independent director, including both not-for-profit and listed entities.

Susan Roberts, BEc, FIAA, MAICD

Non-Executive Director

Susan was appointed to the Maple-Brown Abbott Limited Board in April 2019. She is an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the University of Sydney Business School, a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute and holds a BEc from Macquarie University. Susan is an experienced non-executive director with a focus on business strategy and risk, following an extensive career in funds management, financial services and insurance. She is currently a director of AIG Australia Limited, Chair of Audit and Finance Committee at Teachers Health and was previously CEO for Lazard Asset Management Pacific, Chair of Audit and Risk and Chair of Claims Committees at Zurich Australia Superannuation, and Director of Business Strategy at Lend Lease Investment Services.
